A high-fiber diet can help people lose weight because roughage, which has no calories, fills them up quickly.

Fiber blocks digestion of fat!
Researchers have found that when people were restricted to set calorie diets, with more fiber they absorbed fewer calories. This meant easier and better weight control.

Cut out 130 calories painlessly.
If a man kept his calories the same but chose foods that doubled his fiber intake from 18 to 36 *grams a day, he would end up with about 130 fewer calories daily!

A woman who doubled her fiber from the woman's average of 12 grams to 24 grams per day would get 90 fewer calories a day, equal to nine or 10 pounds worth of calories lost a year's time.
